Over 783 academicians, presidents, professors, and researchers from 200 public and private educational institutions congregated in the Professors World Peace Academy (PWPA) National Convention and Launching of the International Association of Academicians for Peace-Philippines (IAAP) on April 23, 2021. The program aims to lead the attendees with the primary role of the academe in promoting peace and nation-building centered on quality education and research collaborations.
Aligned with its theme, “A Vision for World Peace: The Role of the Academe in Promoting Interdependence, Mutual Prosperity, and Universal Values,” distinguished academe representatives shared their insights on the responsibility of academe in our society. They further discussed the significance of Values-Integration in the educational curriculum and parent-teacher partnerships to produce peace-loving youth.
Among the speakers were Dr. Raymund P. Arcega, President of The Association of Local Colleges And Universities Commission On Accreditation (ALCU-COA); Dr. Brenda B. Corpuz, National President of the Philippine Association for Teachers and Educators (PAFTE); Dr. Amado L. Magsino, President of Philippine Association of Collegiate Schools of Business (PACSB); Dr. Joseph Refugio, President, Philippine Council of Deans and Educators in Business (PCDEB); Dr. Ramon D. Docto, President, Palawan State University; Dr. Ramon Woo Jr., Dean of Studies of John Paul College Roxas Oriental Mindoro; and Hon. Dr. Pilar C. Braga, chairperson of the Committee in Education, Arts and Culture, Science and Technology of the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
Dr. Thomas Selover, the co-chair of IAAP International and president of PWPA International, also graced the event and stressed how PWPA’s approach could contribute greatly to IAAP-Philippines as an organization that re-introduces peace and academic changes and creates collegial partnerships that may offer solutions in the attainment of peace around the world.
IAAP Philippines was then officially launched by its charter president, Dr. Raymund Arcega. In his inaugural address, he underscored that IAAP is the very organization that could open and re-define education as a vital instrument in improving people’s lives and that the academe should be considered as the venue where interdependence, mutual prosperity, moral and universal values are observed. It was affirmed and support by Dr. Jin Sun Bae the Co-Chair of IAAP International and the Chairman of the Hyo Jeong Academic Foundation and President, Unification Thought Institute.
A presentation was also given about PWPA’s vision, mission, and goals, as well as their past projects, accomplishments, and future activities. The academic attendees were all enlightened and pleased with the objectives of PWPA. And with firm resolution, they responded to the call for commitment to be active members of IAAP and become academicians who will work for the betterment of the educational system of the country and world peace.
